| Internet + MP3 = Revolution | The Digital Domain | |
| As a musician, does the idea of being able to sell and distribute
your music to millions of potential listeners sound intriguing? As a listener, does
the idea of being able to choose the music you want (with better pricing) sound like a
dream come true? Of course it does, but with the old music industry model of bands getting signed by record labels (to take advantage of their distribution channels), most musicians were left dreaming, and consumers were left choiceless. Take notice: A revolution is under way. There is a new model that the music industry is going to have to recognize sooner or later. With technologies like MP3, it's going to be sooner. In fact, the battle has already begun. The RIAA is already gearing up for a very heated battle. The large record companies are starting to realize that their fat-cat days are soon to disappear. Who's to benefit from this change: individual artists, bands, and ultimately, you the consumer. Using the internet as a distribution channel, bands will have the freedom of releasing whatever material they desire. Consumers will be able to pick and choose the music that they want to listen to. Gone will be the days of shelling out $15 to buy a new CD that ultimately only has one or two songs worth listening to. Stay tuned.
