Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan - 9 lbs. 10 oz., thick black hair, pudgy cheeks, and
exotic-shaped golden-brown eyes: Today, I'm 5'10", Blonde and well, let's just say I've changed a bit. My singing history tells me I must have entered this world singing! When I was 6, my mom was trying to pay for her groceries and get home, but I had a sudden urge to belt out "Tomorrow" from Annie. Except for the fact that every register stopped ringing, and all the employees and customers stopped to listen to me, I know I was looking at a spanking later. The way I look at it, that was my first real break. I was lucky - real lucky; they liked me - they applauded. A little ham, I even bowed. I will never forget the importance of my "audience". Since I was a kid, I've been willing to sing just about anywhere, and have - whether it be the girls locker room, churches, TBFC functions, plays, weddings, funerals, summer camps, restaurants (while I was dining), work, karaoke - any night of the week, friends' homes, and yes, remember the grocery store. I've always been trying to find someone to listen to me perform. So, at the age of 19 with 60 bucks in my pocket - I left my hometown of Howard City, (pop. 1,281) and moved to Westport, Connecticut. Since then, I've taken vocal training, explored various singing techniques - including New England Gospel, and jammed with artists of every genre - from Caribbean pop to rock. This year I performed with a wedding band and am currently working with a New Jersey rock band. Now I'm looking for my next real break - just like in the grocery store. So, maybe not everything changes. But how can a busy grocery store be wrong - and I'm not 6 anymore. Give me a listen and let me know. Thanks, Cami |
